Understanding Prophecy

Many people want to understand prophecy.  From reading the Holy Bible, we realize that most of the prophecies are centered around Israel.  YHVH our God comforts us with the knowledge that He will make the future of Israel known to us.

Isaiah 45:11
Thus said YHVH, The Holy One of Israel, and his Former: Ask Me of the things coming concerning My sons, Yes, concerning the work of My hands, you command Me.'

There are TWO PRINCIPLES that we should follow to understand prophecy.

1. Prophecy must match the conditions of the time.

One example is given by Christ on the road to Calvary.

Luke 23:28
But Jesus, turning to them, said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, don't weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.

Luke 23:29
For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.'

Mother and child

These words of our Lord Yeshua/Jesus have not come true till this generation.  For thousands of years women have wanted children, and having many children was seen as a blessing.  Today, on the contrary, it is socially unacceptable to have a large family, and some countries even forcibly sterilize women.  Therefore, most women nowadays have been led to believe that being barren is wonderful, and they take birth control pills.  They want careers, and see children as a burden.  Christ predicted this day and age when He stated people would say
"Blessed are the barren!"

Another example is in the book of Isaiah:

A high powered executive of the 21st century.

Isaiah 3:4
And I will make mere lads their princes, and capricious children will rule over them,

Isaiah 3:12
O My people! Their oppressors are children, and women rule over them. O My people! Those who guide you lead you astray and confuse the direction of your paths.

Women did not have, as a rule, such a position of leadership until this time.  The oppressors are children because most gangs are made up of children.  Also, terrorists recruit little kids because they make excellent martyrs. In addition, technology is changing so fast that the wisdom of elderly people is no more desired or revered.  Children usually  know more about computer technology than many old people.  Therefore, these words of the prophet Isaiah  have come to pass in this generation.

2. The sequence of events is in the book of Revelation.

The Book of Revelation - written by the Apostle John

If we read the old testament, it is hard to say what the sequence of these prophetic events will be, because the prophecies are not in chronological order. There are prophecies all over the bible especially in the books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel.

The timeline sequence is in the Book of Revelation. Read timeline.htm

To see how you can start understanding prophecy, read the  Prophecy of Jeremiah.
