Stopping Ebola

Stopping Ebola is a major issue. The name of the game for politicians is claiming that the problem is over. However, thousands of people in Africa have Ebola now. The forecast for the future is many more deaths. Expect more infected people to arrive on our shores as people attempt to escape the epidemic in Africa.

Right now Ebola in Sierra Leone is spreading quickly and numbers are increasing. Some of the problems have to do with how people spread the virus. For example, there are super spreaders of disease organisms. These Typhoid Mary carriers are asymptomatic and often do not know they have the disease as they spread it far and wide.

The first line of defense against an Ebola epidemic is quarantine, where we isolate sick patients and carriers. The second line of defense could be to have many teams of medical workers that are already immune. Already there are thousands of people in Africa that got Ebola years ago. These people are immune; that means they cannot get the disease again.  Therefore we should use Ebola survivors as care givers. These people could serve as the nucleus of a medical team to fight the disease in America. Please understand that most nurses fear Ebola as it can have up to a 90% death rate.

To have a group of people who are immune is important. These individuals could be trained in medical procedures to prevent the disease from spreading further. Time is of essence; this virus could mutate into a more virulent form soon.

Leprosy

Leprosy was a contagious disease of ancient times. Because the number of cases in the US is so low, few doctors can recognize the symptoms in a patient with the disease. People usually used isolation of lepers to prevent the spread of the disease to the rest of the population.

Lev 13:45-46
“The leprous person who has the disease shall wear torn clothes and let the hair of his head hang loose, and he shall cover his upper lip and cry out, ‘Unclean, unclean.’ He shall remain unclean as long as he has the disease. He is unclean. He shall live alone. His dwelling shall be outside the camp.

This rule should be applied today. People with contagious diseases need to be kept in isolation. Otherwise, they will infect anybody they come in contact with.

Numbers 5:1-4 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,  “Command the people of Israel that they put out of the camp everyone who is leprous [a] or has a discharge and everyone who is unclean through contact with the dead. You shall put out both male and female, putting them outside the camp, that they may not defile their camp, in the midst of which I dwell.”  And the people of Israel did so, and put them outside the camp; as the Lord said to Moses, so the people of Israel did.

Leprosy Map

Well, as we can see, God commanded that Israelites put lepers outside the camp. Liberals claim that the segregation of lepers is apartheid and a form of hate. What they do not understand is that they could put at risk healthy people. Those with communicable diseases should not be allowed to live among us without people knowing. A concept of the greater good should guide us. God is his wisdom gave us these laws to prevent the spread of disease.
