Germany's Gold

Germany has lost all confidence in the US economy. Right now, Germany's central bank will attempt to bring home 700 tons of gold reserves from New York and Paris.

Perhaps, some people may wonder what is going on. Gold is real money. In contrast the dollar is just paper. Sadly, the US government has been printing a lot of paper. This can lead to inflation. However, you cannot print precious metals like gold and silver. That is why they have kept their value over thousands of years.

Let me give you an example. Back in Roman times you could rent a house for one month with an ounce of gold. In 1913, an ounce of gold was worth $20, and you could rent a house for $20. Gold is now worth approximately $1600.00 per ounce. That is an increase of 80X in 100 years. However, you cannot rent a house now in 2013 with $20, but you can with $1600.

Basically gold is still worth the same, whereas the American Dollar has lost most of its value. That is why Germany is not interested in getting paper currency. They remember what happened in the Weimar Republic in the 1920's when people suffered from massive money printing and hyperinflation. People  were taking shopping carts full of money to buy groceries.

Due to the massive amount of money being printed, expect inflation to increase. Also, the US  government might make possession of gold illegal again. They did this during the Great Depression of the 1930's when president FDR issued presidential executive order 6102 banning the possession of gold by private citizens.

Confiscation of gold could rear its ugly head again. Look at all the rhetoric of rich against poor. That is why  Germany is getting its gold out now.

God and Riches

God says the following about riches:

Matthew 6:19-21
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

No matter how hard things get, God does not want us to worry about worldly investments. He wants us to focus on doing  good works.

Revelation 3:17-18
Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

The "gold" that God wants us to get is faith tried through misfortunes and troubles.

Revelation 19:8
And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.

We must be dressed with righteousness.

Zechariah 13:9
And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.

Gold is purified by being put through the fire. In the same way, we will be tested with adversity.

Therefore, instead of hoarding money, let us ask God in prayer to increase our faith. Let us girdle ourselves with the breastplate of righteousness. By showing good works we shall store up treasure in heaven.
